How to Elevate your Small Balcony Space

I have been living in my apartment for quite some time and love sitting on my balcony for fresh air - whether it’s in the morning to jumpstart my day or in the evening to watch the sun set. However, my balcony space needed some sprucing up! As you see, it only had a rocking chair and a table. I know. Pretty plain. Thankfully, I was able to swing by my local Old Time Pottery to get some key items to elevate my balcony space!!
RUGS:
Finding the right quality rug can be challenging. Should you select a colorful rug, one with geometric patterns, or one with floral detailing? Thankfully, Old Time Pottery has a vast rug selection to choose from if you are not sure where to start! I personally opted for a black and white rug so that it could be used no matter the season.
TIP: Be sure to measure your balcony space so that you get a rug that is large enough or several rugs that can fill the space you would like to cover. I could have chosen a larger rug, but I fell in love with this pattern. Although it looks like one large rug, it is actually 5 small ones!
COLORFUL CUSHION/PILLOWS:
Cushions and pillows are an easy way to bring color to your space! You can easily change them out to fit the season which is why I think they are a must for any small outdoor space. Be sure to coordinate your pillows with your rug so that they do not clash. I selected this beautiful shade of orange which is right in time for the transition into the Fall season.
PLANTS:
Having plants in your outdoor space is a great way to improve it because they add color and texture. They also can create a calming and relaxing feel. Since plants can completely transform your small balcony space, think about placement before you head to the store so that you have an idea of sizing. Old Time Pottery has a great mixture of both tall and short plants.
TIP: If you are like me and don’t have a green thumb, it is okay. Adding faux plants to your balcony space is a great option! Also, if you are in an apartment, faux plants are wonderful because you do not have to worry about plant water leaking to your neighbors below!
TABLE ACCENT PIECE:
Because my space is small, I did not want the table decor to overpower the area. So to complete the elevation of my balcony space, I added a simple succulent to my outdoor table. This piece pulls everything together nicely and makes my balcony the perfect oasis to journal, relax and sip some lemonade, or just sit and enjoy some fresh air!
